We Started Digging

After 6+ months of working on architecture plans, permits, gathering funds, and choosing the details for every square inch of this house- we have broken ground!

That’s not to say that there has been no movement so far…Chandler and I found the Facebook Marketplace find of a lifetime in Cincinnati. If you’ve kept up with this blog, then you remember reading about Gustav Stickley, father of the Arts & Crafts Movement and a huge source of inspiration for us. Stickley (the man), though long gone, is survived through his heirloom-quality furniture brand, “Stickley”. We have been on the hunt for any Stickley brand items, second-hand, not only because they are a huge investment, but also to add some pre-loved elements to this new home.

Enter Suzanne and her wonderful husband who were looking to get rid of this behemoth of a Dining room table. They not only sold us a beautiful 1996 Mission-style Keyhole 8 ft table with 8 chairs (6 standard and 2 large Capitan’s chairs) but they also helped us move and cover this table that Chandler and I were incredibly unprepared to move. Seriously, this thing is massive. Birkenstocks were not the correct footwear for this project, and I was of little help… besides holding the doors. :D

While the table sits in my parent’s garage, we officially broke ground. We have a temporary driveway, and have dug out the crawl space/foundation with footers. Fingers crossed that the rain lets up so that we can pour the concrete in the coming week. In the meantime, we will continue to search for vintage chandeliers, tiles, cabinetry, mantels, and more.
